The earliest mention of the Malta Orange was accounted for in Chinese literature. The Malta orange, arising in domestication from a cross between a non-pure mandarin orange and a hybrid pomelo, had a substantial mandarin component. Famous for it’s tangy, citrusy taste, oranges are generally referred to as ‘Santara’ in India. Usually the size of citrus fruit is medium with a round shape. The rind is thick, coarse, textured, and bright orange in colour. Whereas, the pulp is juicy, fibrous and between shades of orange and yellow with numerous white coloured seeds.
